Heating up the ebook service

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Google Inc.’s entry into the electronic book market is not completely unexpected, as it has been scanning and sparring over digital rights over out-of-print books with publishers and authors for years.

But with Google (GOOG 501.01, -5.36, -1.06%) now confirming it plans to join the e-book frenzy with Amazon.com Inc.  (AMZN 128.10, -1.73, -1.33%) , Apple Inc.  (AAPL 253.68, -5.00, -1.93%) and others, via a new service this summer called Google Editions, one wonders what advantages will it really have versus its entrenched rivals. See Google news here.

Isn’t Amazon kindle reader in such a sorry state now? With Apple and Google coming into the fray, profit margin will be squeezed. Given that few years ago, Amazon is dominating the market. What could they have done?

One thing that come to my mind… What about yours?
